Star Harbor is a tiny gem of a lakeside community just a 5 minute drive from the gates of Long Cove (where my family lakehouse is). Once I found this little town, I waited patiently- yes-patiently for a year- until a home went on the market for me to renovate. The timing couldn’t have been better- which is how I know the universe lined up to present this gift to me. My dad (Elmer) has just been miraculously released from hospice and is living near my brother in the Chicago burbs in a nursing facility. I won’t be visiting every 2 weeks like I have been over the last year, so I wanted to stay connected. Dad loves a good design project and he also loves connecting with people. This blog will be the way I can share the renovation with him step by step- I’d love to get his opinions and yours along the way. Elmer has some lofty goals as far as his rehabilitation, so any words of encouragement for him are appreciated too!
This is NOT a million dollar project. This is a modest little lake home that I plan on putting my heart and soul into to make a most wonderful place for families and their friends to enjoy together. My goal with Dwell with Dignity has always been to transform environments to transform lives. I envision that same idea here. Having a place to get away from the stresses of life in the city has been a huge blessing to our family and I’m hoping to create a space for others to get away and reconnect with nature and with family too.
I did promise no hair and makeup…I could get used to this!
